Install issues with Ubuntu 14.04

SmartGit mailing list
Just updated to SmartGit 6.5 from 6.0 (which worked fine), and the new install barely works.  I run Ubuntu 14.04 on a vmWare Player 6.0.4 virtual machine.

The application launches and dissappears when launched from the launchbar icon.
When launched from the terminal, I'm able to use the app, but I get the following warning:

 me@ubuntu:~/Downloads/smartgit/bin$ smartgit.sh
Warning: /usr/bin/java/bin/java does not exist
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM warning: You have loaded library /home/javier/.smartgit/6.5/jna-tmp/com/sun/jna/linux-x86/libjnidispatch.so which might have disabled stack guard. The VM will try to fix the stack guard now.
It's highly recommended that you fix the library with 'execstack -c <libfile>', or link it with '-z noexecstack'.

 Here's my Java version:
 java version "1.7.0_65"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.5.3) (7u71-2.5.3-0ubuntu0.14.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.65-b04, mixed mode)

 My JAVA_HOME:
 me@ubuntu:~/Downloads/smartgit$ echo $JAVA_HOME
/usr/bin/java

Hi,

Be sure to have uninstalled SmartGit 6.0 (including its icon) and then installed 6.5 in an empty directory and recreate the icon. Do not pin the icon from a running SmartGit - that won't work.

Re: Install issues with Ubuntu 14.04

SmartGit mailing list
I removed 6.0.6 with Synaptic Package Manager.

Running the "add-menuitem.sh" didn't result in a launch icon being added to the launchbar.

I was able to search for "smartgit" using the system search facility, which yielded a SmartGit launch icon.  Launched the application from there, then pinned to the launchbar.

I'm now able to launch from the launchbar.

 Thx.

It looks like you have to log out and back in. If someone knows how to force-fully refresh the menu, please let me know.
