SmartGit crashes on startup - OS X 10.6.8

doublem2
Hi, I have a MacBook Pro (model A1151) running OS X 10.6.8 with all the latest updates for it. When I launch SmartGit it always immediately crashes - the dock icon appears, bounces while loading, then disappears. In Console, the following error appears (below). Any suggestions? This is with 5.0.9. I also tried 5.0.5 and the error was the same, just a couple line numbers were different. (v6 doesn't run either; that gives a JVM error).

 Any suggestions?
 Thanks
 Marc

How exactly are you launching SmartGit? Can you please check whether version 6 preview builds work better?

Re: SmartGit crashes on startup - OS X 10.6.8

doublem2
I have SmartGitHg 5 installed to /Applications (the default location). I run it by double-clicking the application "package" in /Applications and also by going through the Dock shortcut Applications -> SmartGitHg 5. Both methods give the exact same error.

 SmartGitHg 6 doesn't work either, but it's a different error. I made a separate post about that on Friday. It says 'Unable to find any JVMs matching version "1.7+".' That sounds like it wants Java 7, which is unsupported on OS 10.6 according to the Java download page.

Please get the latest build (Help|Check for Latest Build) and add

smartgit.threadingWorkaround.force=directly

to smartgit.properties (in the Settings directory, usually ~/Library/Preferences/SmartGit/5), then try to restart.

If that doesn't work, try restarting with:

smartgit.threadingWorkaround.force=main-loop

In either case, please send us log.txt after your experiments directly to [hidden email]

Thanks!

Re: SmartGit crashes on startup - OS X 10.6.8

Unfortunately, since SmartGit doesn't run at all, I cannot do Help | Get Latest Build on that machine.

 I tried that on a different machine, but SmartGit breaks after getting latest build. I had 5.0.9 (build 2131) and got latest build. When I clicked to restart SmartGit, it closed all the windows then a few seconds later the icon went away entirely. After that when I try to run it, it immediately closes without any message or error.

 Here's the log.txt:
 1     (2014-04-14 14:54:51,467) [main] INFO                  root  - Log4J logger created.

 And only one line appeared in Console:

 Is there a way to directly download the latest build?

I've tried SmartGit 5.0.9 on our old Mac mini with Core 2 Duo processor running OS X 10.6.8 and it works fine with the default Java 1.6.0_39/64-bit. When I force the 32-bit mode using command line parameter -d32, it also needs the -XstartOnFirstThread parameter.

Regarding the fsNotifier - we use a prebuild binary, most likely it is incompatible with your processor.
