because that to me does not sound very useful.

Unless you mean checkout a commit x commits ago?

Hi Kevin,

Do you mean 'git clone --depth <depth> <url>'? This is not supported by SmartGit, but you may clone the repository from Git command line and then open the created repository in SmartGit.
