please support spaces in named hg branches

SmartGit mailing list
Hi,
I am unable to see mercurial/hg branches that have spaces in the names.

For instance "7.5 DLB4.0" does not show up my list of available branches to Switch to. If I use TortoiseHg Workbench, I can see those branches.  If I switch to such a branch using TortoiseHg, it then shows up in SmartGit's listing.

I think names with spaces need to be properly escaped in order for certain hg commands to work. For instance:

 >hg log -r "parents(min(branch(7.5\ DLB4.0)))"
hg: parse error at 22: syntax error

Whereas the following work when wrapping the name in single quotes:
 >hg log -r "parents(min(branch('7.5 DLB4.0')))"

 I'm using SmartGit version 6 (6.0.5 build #3137).

Thanks to all the developers for such a great client!
 Eric

Sorry, I miscopied my hg example. It should say this:

>hg log -r "parents(min(branch(7.5 DLB4.0)))"
hg: parse error at 22: syntax error

Re[2]: [smartgit] please support spaces in named hg branches

SmartGit mailing list
Hello Eric,

That explains why almost half of the branches are missing on the hg
repo I'm working on.  It also appears that SmartGit/Hg doesn't show
commits newer than the current head on those branches(I have to use
tortoise to update those branches also).  And maybe it's the reason
why it can never update and merge if I have local changes.

Mike,

Glad to know others out there are sharing my pain. :)  Do you know whether
SmartGit programmers are listening to this list? Or how a bug report can be
submitted? (Sorry, I'm a newbie.)

Re[4]: [smartgit] please support spaces in named hg branches

SmartGit mailing list
Hello Eric,

Yes, they do listen.  I reported the missing branches and issues
I was having several weeks ago, and they responded.

However I had not noticed the correlation with spaces in the names,
so nothing really came of it (AFAIK).  Hopefully with your discovery
they'll get it taken care of asap because I can't use SmartGit/Hg
with this problem.

Re: please support spaces in named hg branches

SmartGit mailing list
Hi,

I would be happy to test 6.5, but it reports "Your existing SmartGit
license has expired. Please provide the new one you've received by email."

How should I continue? (I'm using the noncommercial version.)

I noticed someone else having this same problem and support recommended
this "Please remove the 6.5 settings directory and copy the 6 directory to
6.5 as work-around."  But I'm not sure what settings directory you are
referring to. Could you be more specific? I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit.

It's usually %APPDATA%/syntevo/SmartGit/6 which should be copied to %APPDATA%/syntevo/SmartGit/6.5 .

Re: please support spaces in named hg branches

Hi, I think the problem can still be reproduced.  I still cannot see
branches with spaces in the Branch list.

Here's the log view showing branch history including "7.5 DLB4.0" and "7.5
DBL4.0 nlm", but those branches do not appear in the branch list on the
left.

Did you upgrade to the latest build (Help > Check for Latest Build)?

If that still does not work, please send us the screenshots directly to [hidden email] -- attachments are not delivered to the mailing list.

Re: Re[2]: [smartgit] please support spaces in named hg branches

It's working for me too (6.5 build #4041, Sep 11, 2014). I didn't realize I
needed to do Check for Latest Build twice. (Once from version 6, and then
once after getting 6.5).

Thanks for your help!

Eric

Mike and Eric, is SmartGit 6.5 Preview still working properly for you
with regards to spaces in branch names? I'm considering to backport the
fix to version 6.
